26 March, 2008

The Durham and District branch of Epilepsy Action is to hold a conference on Saturday April 5. The event will run from 9:00am - 3:00pm at Durham County Hall, Durham County Council.

The conference entitled ‘Epilepsy: The Options’, will include a talk from Dr Simon Taggart, consultant neurophysiologist at The James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough and Gail Hall who will present information on the Ketogenic Diet. Gail’s presentation will include a video on the difference the diet has made to her son’s quality of life. The event will provide an ideal opportunity for anyone with an interest in epilepsy to learn more about the condition. Delegates will have the opportunity to learn more about many topics relating to epilepsy including, seizure alert dogs. Delegates will also be provided with information about Epilepsy Action services across the UK, as well support available locally.

Bob Dennis, regional services manager for North East England, said: “Due to the array of information that is going to be available to delegates at this conference, we believe that it will be an ideal opportunity for anyone with an interest in epilepsy to attend. There will be plenty of information for delegates to take away. So please come along and you will be made very welcome.”

Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK. The branches hold regular meetings and offer a variety of social events and informative talks and discussions relating to epilepsy. The meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition in the local community.
