Eccleston Mere Primary School Doodle Their Way To Success (St Helens)

16 July, 2007

Pupils at Eccleston Mere Primary School in St Helens, Merseyside have been named winners of the Northern Primary School category in this year’s National Doodle Day competition.

National Doodle Day took place earlier this year in aid of Epilepsy Action and the Neurofibromatosis Association. Members of the public were invited to submit doodles into a national competition. The judging of the various categories was carried out by actor, author and Doodle Day Patron, Maureen Lipman. The work of all the winners is displayed in the Hall of Fame at www.nationaldoodleday.org.uk

The school will be presented with a number of learning aids kindly donated by Vtech; including a Slim Pad and a TV Learning Computer. The presentation will be made by Jayne Burton, an accredited volunteer for Epilepsy Action, at a school assembly on Thursday July 19.

Philip Friend, head teacher at Eccleston Mere Primary School, said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in National Doodle Day, particularly as they all doodled along to music! Raising awareness of epilepsy is very important in our school as we have a number of children and adults who have epilepsy.”

The event, which included a charity auction of almost 300 celebrity doodles, has raised more than £120,000 for the two charities over the last four years.
