Epilepsy advice and information day in South Shields

9 February, 2009

Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is holding an advice and information day on Saturday 21 February to support people affected by epilepsy in the area.

The event, organised by the Tyneside branch of Epilepsy Action, will take place from 10.00am to 4.00pm at the South Shields Central Library in Prince Georg Square. Information will be available on a range of issues including advice on living with epilepsy and caring for people with epilepsy.

Mike Casselden, regional services manager for North East England, said: “This information day is open to anyone with an interest in epilepsy, providing vital advice and support. As the nearest Epilepsy Action branch is Tyneside, this event is aimed at reaching out to people in the South Shields area to see if there is a demand for a branch here.”

Members of the Tyneside branch will be attending the event and they will be happy to share their experiences in relation to epilepsy and Epilepsy Action. Anyone who would like further information, or to get involved with the Tyneside branch should contact Mike on 07767 242 658.

Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK. The branches hold regular meetings and offer a variety of social events and informative talks and discussions relating to epilepsy. The meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition.

Last year alone, Epilepsy Action directly helped more than 731,000 people through a range of services, including its advice and information centre and Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050. For further information about the work of Epilepsy Action please visit www.epilepsy.org.uk
