South Shields epilepsy advice and information meeting

14 April, 2009

Epilepsy Action is holding a meeting on Thursday 23 April with a view of forming a new branch in South Shields, and supporting people affected by epilepsy in the area.

The event will take place from 10.00am to 12.00pm at Bliss-Ability: Disability Information Service, 34-36 New Green Street, Laygate, South Shields. Information will be available on a range of issues including advice on living with epilepsy and caring for people with epilepsy.

Mike Casselden, regional services manager for North East England, will be speaking and presenting an informative DVD which provides the basic facts about epilepsy and different seizure types.

Jo Wilson, Chair of the Tyneside branch of Epilepsy Action will also be speaking about the benefits of the local branches, and will be happy to share her experiences in relation to epilepsy and Epilepsy Action. Anyone who would like further information, or to get involved with the Tyneside branch, should contact Mike Casselden on 07767 242 658.

Mike said: “This meeting follows on from our recent, very successful advice and information day at the Central Library in South Shields. Many people at the event expressed an interest in having a local branch of Epilepsy Action. So, hopefully, this meeting will allow that to happen, which will be a positive outcome for people with epilepsy in the area.”

Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK. The branches hold regular meetings and offer a variety of social events and informative talks and discussions relating to epilepsy. The meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition.
