Volunteers from Epilepsy Action’s Stockton branch will be helping to bring epilepsy “Out in the Open” by dressing up as super heroes for a local sponsored walk.
The two mile walk will start at 12:30pm and will take place at Stewart Park, Ladgate Lane, Middlesbrough on Sunday May 18. It is just one of many such events happening throughout the UK to celebrate National Epilepsy Week (18 - 24 May). Nationwide, thousands of people will be walking to bring epilepsy into the open and raise vital funds for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation.
Bob Dennis, regional services manager for north east England said: “This event is open to all regardless of whether you have epilepsy and we hope a fun day will be had by all. Although the branch members are a adopting a super heroes theme, this is optional and everyone is invited to come along and take part and help to not only raise funds for Epilepsy Action but also awareness of an often misunderstood condition.”
Epilepsy Action is looking to recruit as many walkers and walk organisers as possible if it is to reach this year’s fundraising target of £45,000. More information can be found at http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/wongawalks.
The money raised will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action. Last year alone the organisation directly helped over 731,000 people through a range of services including its Epilepsy Helpline freephone, 0808 800 5050, advice and information centre, and branch network.
