Clients at The Stroke Association in Southport, Merseyside have been named Group category winners in this year’s National Doodle Day competition.
National Doodle Day took place earlier this year in aid of Epilepsy Action and the Neurofibromatosis Association. Members of the public were invited to submit doodles into a national competition. The judging of the various categories was carried out by actor, author and Doodle Day Patron, Maureen Lipman. The work of all the winners is displayed in the Hall of Fame on the National Doodle Day website
Julie Ainscow, Regional Communications Officer for The Stroke Association says: “Communication difficulties are a common side effect of stroke. For many stroke survivors being able to construct simple sentences and say the most basic things can be a real struggle, leaving them feeling frustrated and tormented. We decided to take part in National Doodle Day as art can be a great source of solitude providing an outlet to express and communicate such emotions.”
National Doodle Day, which includes a charity auction of almost 300 celebrity doodles, has raised more than £120,000 for the two charities over the last four years
