Manchester orchestra performs sweet symphony for epilepsy charity

26 May, 2009

The South Manchester branch of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is hosting a classical concert to raise vital funds to support people living with epilepsy in the area.

The Manchester Beethoven Orchestra will perform music composed by Rossini, Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky at the concert on Saturday 6 June. The evening is free to attend and donations for Epilepsy Action are welcome.

The branch will also be providing advice and information for anyone interested in finding out more about epilepsy. Karen Miller, the Chair of the South Manchester branch of Epilepsy Action, will talk about the work of the charity before the interval.

The concert will take place at Emmanuel Church, Didsbury from 7.30 pm and 9.45 pm.

Patricia Goulcher, secretary of the orchestra, said: "We are an amateur symphony orchestra, established in 1891. We do four concerts a year for various charities. Epilepsy Action has been chosen by our members as a worthy cause."

Clifford Challenger, regional services manager for Northern England, said: "The South Manchester Branch and I are really happy that the orchestra has chosen to support Epilepsy Action’s work. All too often epilepsy is misunderstood and this gives us a great opportunity to publicise our work locally.”

Anyone who would like further information, or to get involved with the South Manchester branch, should contact Cliff Challenger, regional services manager for Northern England, on 01274 640064.

Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK. The branches hold regular meetings and offer a variety of social events and informative talks and discussions relating to epilepsy. The meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition.
