Reddish woman goes the extra mile for epilepsy charity

5 May, 2010

A Reddish woman, whose dad has epilepsy, is taking part in the Bupa Great Manchester Run. Michelle Potter will be raising vital funds for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.

Michelle is taking part because her dad was diagnosed with epilepsy almost 10 years ago. Michelle will join others to attempt the challenging 10k run on Sunday 16 May, which starts on Portland Street and finishes on Deansgate.

Michelle, 32, said: “My dad was diagnosed with epilepsy almost 10 years ago so I wanted to show my support for him and also help raise awareness. Although his epilepsy is controlled now, me and family went through the worst year of our lives waiting for the diagnosis.

“The run is quite a good personal challenge for me as I’ve only ever run 5k before but I’m looking forward to it. I really hope that I can raise lots of money to help other people and their families and carers, who are affected by epilepsy.”

Michelle hopes to raise at least £200 to help support the 456,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK. The money raised by Michelle will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action.

Epilepsy Action has a huge variety of fundraising events suitable for all ages and abilities. The events can be a fun and exciting challenge with the added bonus of making a difference to the lives of people with epilepsy. To find out more visit www.epilepsy.org.uk/involved
