A Warrington family will cycle 1,000 miles from Denmark to Warrington in memory of a much-loved daughter and sister.
In August 2008, the Farrell family lost its youngest member, 15-year old Felicity, to SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy). Felicity had only been diagnosed with epilepsy eight months previously. In 2009, older brother Tan moved with his Danish girlfriend from his hometown of Warrington to Copenhagen, Denmark.
Determined to make a difference to the lives of people affected by epilepsy in memory of Felicity, Tan has organised the ‘Bringing Home the Bacon’ challenge.
Tan and dad Kevin will be bringing home the bacon by cycling 1,000 miles from Copenhagen to Warrington. Brothers Alex and Seb will be providing support by cycling part of the route with them and driving the support vehicle. They hope to complete the challenge in just 14 days, leaving Copenhagen on Wednesday 25 July and arriving in Warrington on Wednesday 8 August. The ride will take in five different countries, the London 2012 Olympics and over 1,500 kilometres of hard terrain.
The Farrell family has already raised almost £6,000 for Epilepsy Action, towards their target of £10,000. To show your support for the Farrells and Epilepsy Action, visit www.justgiving.com/bringinghomethebacon
The money raised will help to support the charity’s work all over the UK. Epilepsy Action campaigns to improve epilepsy services and raise awareness of epilepsy. It also provides a national network of support groups, funds a specialist nurse scheme, holds regular regional conferences and has a freephone and email helpline.
Epilepsy affects around one in every 100 people in the UK alone and 87 people are diagnosed with the condition every day. Three people die every day because of their epilepsy. SUDEP claims around 500 people’s lives each year in the UK.
