Warrington Labour Club to raise funds for epilepsy

28 June, 2010

The Lowton Labour Club is holding a club night to raise funds for the Wigan branch of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation.

The event will take place on 2 July from 7.30pm at the Lowton Labour Club, 214 Newton Road, Lowton, Warrington.

Bar manager, Tracey, has organised several charity events since moving to the area. This event is first in a series for epilepsy, and the Wigan branch. The programme includes Chick-a-Cheeta (The Abba Girl Tribute Show), raffle prizes and Radio Warrington’s DJ, Dennis Hammond. Lord Peter Smith, leader of Wigan Council and Labour Life Peer will also be attending the event.

Tracey Hammond, said: “We really enjoy these events and this one is for a condition that is rarely understood properly, so it will be a great chance to raise awareness, as well as have a good time. One of our staff has epilepsy and it is important to support her, and others, by way of fundraising for the Wigan branch of Epilepsy Action.”

Kevin Whittle, Chair of the Wigan branch of Epilepsy Action, said: “This is a fantastic way to spend a summer night out, and support us. We are extremely grateful for all the hard work that staff at the Lowton Labour Club have done.”

Anyone who would like to attend the event, or would like further information, should contact Tracey Hammond on 01942 510 210. Tickets cost £5.

The Wigan branch Epilepsy Action holds regular meetings on the first Friday of every month at 8pm at the Tippings Arms. The meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition in the local community. The branch’s programme of events includes speaker evenings, fundraising, and social activities.
