Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is hosting a yoga and mindfulness meditation event in Cardiff to provide support to people with epilepsy.
It will take place on Saturday 2 April at The Angel Hotel, Castle Street, Cardiff, from 9.30am to 1.30pm.
The aim of the event is to show people with epilepsy and their families how to manage fear and stress. Substantial research into the health benefits of mindfulness meditation and yoga indicates that regular practice can significantly benefit physical and psychological health. Both are safe for people with epilepsy.
Speakers include Dr Charlotte Lawthom, consultant neurologist from the Royal Gwent Hospital and Mia Goodenough, Yoga teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga, therapist and complimentary therapy trainer. Vicki Worsley, an experienced mindfulness practitioner, counsellor and trainer will also be speaking. Vicki has over 20 years experience.
Ann Sivapatham, Wales manager for Epilepsy Action Cymru, said: “I wanted to try something different! Meditation and yoga are beneficial for the treatment of stress, depression and chronic pain. Why not come and learn something new and have some fun! Remember to wear light clothing as we will be doing some gentle stretching exercises. If you have a yoga mat, please bring it with you.”
Tickets cost £6.00 for delegates (£4.00 concessions), £10 for a couple (£6.00 concessions). Seats are limited so to book a place, or for further information, please contact Jackie Kemp on 0113 210 8787, or email jkemp@epilepsy.org.uk
