A Dromore woman, whose sister has epilepsy, is preparing to raise serious ‘wonga’ for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.
Ruth Wethers has organised an Epilepsy Action Wonga Walk at Castlewellan Forest Park on Friday 18 June at 7.00pm. Ruth has organised two routes for the walk, which takes place during National Epilepsy Week (13-19 June). The first route is 2.75 miles and takes walkers around the park’s lake; the other is five and a half miles and is a hilly forest walk.
Ruth said: “My sister Esther, who is now 27, has had epilepsy since she was one. We have always had great support from epilepsy organisations, so I wanted to give something in return. A summer’s evening walk is the perfect, healthy way to raise much-needed funds.”
The walk is one of several Wonga Walks taking place across the country to mark National Epilepsy Week (13-19 June) and celebrate Epilepsy Action’s sixtieth anniversary. The charity is hoping the walks will clock up a total distance of 9,240 miles – equivalent to walking to Timbuktu and back. To achieve this target, Epilepsy Action needs 60 walking groups of 25 people, each walking a distance of six miles.
