Alison Brennen, treasurer of Epilepsy Action Northern Ireland Antrim Branch, has received the Branch Member of the Year Northern Ireland award in recognition of her work here. Additionally, Epilepsy Action Northern Ireland Antrim Branch has received a ‘highly commended’ award for the work it does as part of the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.
Since the formation of the Antrim Branch in 2006, Alison and other volunteers have worked hard to provide support and understanding for people with epilepsy. They have put on a range of epilepsy information events locally and in particular for patients attending the Antrim Area Hospital.
A variety of fundraising activities have made sure the branch has continued since 2006. Everyone involved is committed not only to helping improve services for people in Northern Ireland, but they willingly support Epilepsy Action’s UK-wide campaigns.
Morina Clarke, Epilepsy Action’s manager for Northern Ireland, said: “Alison is a very deserving award winner and the branch has been outstanding. They support me in my work and are dedicated to our cause.”
The Antrim Branch meetings are open to anyone with an interest in epilepsy. There are opportunities to access detailed information about living with the condition and to learn how to get involved in raising epilepsy awareness in the area.
The Antrim Branch meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 7.30pm at Antrim Civic Centre, Stiles Way, Antrim. If you are interested in joining the branch, or would like more information, please contact Morina on 02890 634 942.
Epilepsy Action is a registered charity which has a network of branches throughout the UK. Last year the organisation directly helped over 845,000 people through its wide range of services, including its Epilepsy Helpline and advice and information centre.
