Epilepsy and depression workshop comes to Llandrindrod Wells

29 February, 2012

Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is hosting a workshop on epilepsy and depression.

It will take place on Thursday 15 March Hotel Commodore, Spa Road, Llandrindrod Wells, Powys, from 6.30pm to 8.00pm.

Professor Mike Kerr, Professor of Learning Disability Psychiatry at the Department of Psychological Medicine, Cardiff University School of Medicine, will be speaking.

Depression is common in people with epilepsy. This seminar aims to help understand what depression is and how, for some people, it is linked to epilepsy. Consultant neurologists have been talking about the importance of recognising depression in patients.

Ann Sivapatham, Epilepsy Action’s Wales Manager, said: “The sessions are aimed at people with epilepsy and their families. In 2002, a study showed that depression is more likely in people with epilepsy than asthma, or those with no chronic condition. We wanted to help people understand why this is so. There will also be an opportunity to take information away on a range of subjects and epilepsy, and talk to people who have had similar experiences.”

Tickets cost £6.00 for delegates (£4.00 concessions). Seats are limited so to book a place, or for further information, please contact Jackie Kemp on 0113 210 8787, or email jkemp@epilepsy.org.uk
