Epilepsy conference in Swansea

5 November, 2007

A one-day conference on epilepsy, aimed at anyone in Wales with an interest in the condition, will take place in Swansea on Saturday November 17.

The event is being organised by the UK’s leading member-led epilepsy charity, Epilepsy Action, and will take place from 9.00am until 4.00pm at The Marriott Hotel, Maritime Quarter in Swansea.

The theme of the conference is Epilepsy and You and it is supported by the lottery funded grants programme ‘Awards for All Wales’. The grant has been awarded to the Llanelli branch of Epilepsy Action for this regional conference.

The conference will include presentations from a range of experts including Dr Phil Smith, a consultant neurologist and a member of the Wales advisory panel; Professor Mike Kerr, from the welsh centre for learning disabilities and chair of the Wales advisory panel; Dr Cathy White, paediatric neurologist from Morriston Hospital Swansea and Carrie Hammond, coordinator of the Wales Epilepsy Research Network from Swansea University.

Ann Reynolds, Epilepsy Action’s regional services manager for Wales, says: “This is the second major conference in Wales this decade that focuses on understanding and living with epilepsy and is one not to be missed by those who have an interest in the condition, both personally and professionally.”

Ann Continues: “The medical aspects in both children and adults will be presented together with the implications of living with the condition. The conference will also be of interest to those people who have an interest in learning about whether epilepsy can be inherited.”

The price of the conference tickets are £10.00 for members of Epilepsy Action; £12.00 for non members; £6.50 for concessionary rate, people who are in full time education, in receipt of benefits or on a state pension. Membership of Epilepsy Action can be purchased along with entrance to the conference for a special price of £27.00; or a concessionary membership of Epilepsy Action including concessionary conference fee of £17.50
