Father takes on charity challenge (Ellon, Aberdeenshire)

27 September, 2007

David Roberts from Ellon, Aberdeenshire is taking part in this year’s BUPA Great North Run in aid of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation.

The race, which is the world’s biggest half marathon, will take place on Sunday 30 September, starting in Newcastle and finishing 13.1 miles later in South Shields.

David says: “My mother and eldest son, Alec, both have epilepsy and it has made my son’s school life quite difficult due to ignorance from people. I think this is a condition that needs more awareness so that people don’t have the difficulties that Alec has had.”

David, who will be celebrating his birthday several days before taking part in the challenge, enthuses about the event: “I’m looking forward to catching up with old friends. The whole weekend will be great fun, but of course, it’s not just about enjoying myself, I’m hoping to raise at least £500.”

The money raised by David will help fund vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action, which directly helps more than 660,000 people every year. The charity has a network of branches across the UK and an award-winning website, www.epilepsy.org.uk
