Leading professors speak out on the affects of epilepsy

25 June, 2008

The Conwy and District branch of Epilepsy Action is to hold a public seminar on Friday July 11 in a bid to support people living with the condition in the area.  The seminar, entitled “Epilepsy, Memory and Quality of life issues” will run from 6.30pm-9.00pm at North East Wales Institute of Higher Education, Plas Coch Campus, Mold Road, Wrexham. During the seminar there will be talks from Professor Ann Jacoby, who specialises in medical sociology, and Professor Gus Baker, who specialises in clinical neuropsychology, both of whom are well know for their research into stigma and quality of life issues for people with epilepsy.  Ann Reynolds, Epilepsy Action’s regional services manager for Wales, said: “This seminar is a follow on from the recently successful conference that took place in Wrexham in May this year, which highlighted the need for more information in the area. Epilepsy is much more than just a medical condition and can have far reaching consequences that affect every sphere of a person’s life. If this is something that interests you then please come along and learn how you can help yourselves towards a better future with epilepsy.” Anyone who would like to attend the seminar, or would like further information, should contact Ann Reynolds on 01633 253407.

Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK. The branches hold regular meetings and offer a variety of social events, informative talks and discussions relating to epilepsy.

The meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition in the local community.
