Llandyrnog nursery wins national doodling award

16 June, 2011

Nursery school children at Ysgol Bryn Clwyd, Llandyrnog, have beaten off competition from over 220 other schools and colleges to be crowned category winners of National Doodle Day 2011.

Children were encouraged to draw a doodle and submit it into the annual National Doodle Day competition. The competition gives schools the chance to win vouchers to spend on equipment and resources, while also raising money for national charity Epilepsy Action.

Ysgol Bryn Clwyd’s winning doodle was drawn by 4 year-old Leah Hughes. The school has been awarded with a £150 voucher to spend on equipment and resources.  The winning doodle is also displayed in the Doodle Hall of Fame on the National Doodle Day website.

Kate Dowell, part-time teacher, at Ysgol Bryn Clwyd, said: “We are delighted to win this award and be a part of National Doodle Day. The competition is a great way for children to express themselves creatively, while also helping a cause close to my own heart.”

Philippa Cartwright, fundraising events manager at Epilepsy Action, said: “We’d like to pass on our congratulations and thanks to the staff and children at Ysgol Bryn Clwyd. This year’s National Doodle Day has raised almost £19,000 to help support the 456,000 people with epilepsy in the UK. We’re very grateful to Ysgol Bryn Clwyd for helping us reach this fantastic figure.”

National Doodle Day 2012 will be held on Friday 2 March. For more information, visit www.nationaldoodleday.org.uk
