20 September, 2010

Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is hosting a conference in Belfast, covering many aspects epilepsy and celebrating Epilepsy Action’s Diamond Jubilee, or 60th birthday.

The event will take place on Saturday 2 October at the Holiday Inn, Ormeau Avenue, Belfast, from 9.30am to 3.45pm, and is open to anyone with an interest in epilepsy.

Speakers include Dr Jim Morrow, consultant neurologist, from Royal Belfast Hospital, who will be speaking about management of epilepsy in the past, present, and future. Dr Sadya Tirupathi, paediatric consultant neurologist, from Royal Belfast Hospital, will be talking about “the child with epilepsy”, and Eddie Casement will talk about the Family Fund.

Other sessions include a “Have your say” session with Epilepsy Action’s chief executive, giving people the opportunity to give their aspirations for the future work of Epilepsy Action. There will also be an opportunity to put questions to an epilepsy specialist nurse in a one to one contact session.

Morina Clarke, regional services manager for Northern Ireland, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for people with epilepsy and their families to review the past and update themselves on the latest developments in epilepsy. There will also be an opportunity to meet other people with the condition, and to talk to an epilepsy expert. Lunch and refreshments are provided and there is access to free literature about many aspects of epilepsy. Come along, learn more about epilepsy, and help us celebrate 60 years as a charity.”

Tickets cost £19.00 for delegates, £12.00 for members and £8 member concessions.
