Professionals speak at an ‘epilepsy in children’ seminar in Antrim

7 April, 2010

The Antrim branch of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is hosting a seminar dealing with epilepsy in children on Wednesday 28 April.

The event will take place at Antrim Civic Centre, Stiles Way, Antrim from 6.30pm to 9.00pm and is open to families of children or anyone with an interest in epilepsy.

This seminar is one of several being organised in Northern Ireland, during 2010. It will be particularly beneficial to parents of children with epilepsy, and health professionals. Guest speakers include Dr Nicola Bailie, consultant paediatrician at Northern Health and Social Care Trust. She will be talking about children with epilepsy, diagnosis and management of the condition. Leslie Alexander will also be there to talk about her role as the paediatric epilepsy nurse specialist in the Northern Trust since coming into post in 2009.

Morina Clarke, regional services manager for Northern Ireland, will provide a brief overview of Epilepsy Action’s work in Northern Ireland, said: “This seminar will focus on children’s issues but will also dispel the myths that surround epilepsy and provide the opportunity for a general discussion about epilepsy.

"It would be great if people in Antrim and the surrounding areas came together to support this event. We hope the seminar will highlight the marvellous work of Epilepsy Action’s Antrim branch, as well as inform on important issues affecting everyone with epilepsy.”

Anyone who would like to attend the seminar, or would like further information, should contact Morina Clarke on 028 9063 4942 (mobile: 0788 577 8585), or at mclarke@epilepsy.org.uk

Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK. The Antrim branch meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at Antrim Civic Centre.

The meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition in the local community.
