Professionals speak at epilepsy seminar in Llandudno

7 August, 2009

The Conwy and District Branch of Epilepsy Action, the UK's largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is holding a seminar on Saturday 5 September. The seminar aims to help support people living with epilepsy in the region.

The seminar will take place at Venue Cymru, The Promenade, Llandudno, from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm. It will focus on the stigma surrounding living with epilepsy. Guest speakers include Lucy Olafsson, Communications Officer at Epilepsy Action, and Professor Ann Jacoby. Professor Jacoby is Professor of Medical Sociology at the University of Liverpool and has worked in the field of epilepsy for over 20 years.  John Flynn, a media volunteer for Epilepsy Action, will also speak about his experiences of living with epilepsy.

Ann Sivapatham, regional services manager for Wales at Epilepsy Action, said: "Epilepsy is an often overlooked and misunderstood condition. This seminar focuses on stigma and epilepsy and will highlight some of the real issues people living with the condition face. It will be an opportunity for people to discuss their experiences of living with epilepsy and find ways to combat the stigma surrounding the condition."

Anyone who would like to attend the seminar, or would like more information, should contact Ann Sivapatham on 01633 253 407, or the regional services team on 0113 210 8800.

Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK. The branches hold regular meetings and offer a variety of social events, informative talks and discussions relating to epilepsy.

The meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with
epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition in the local community. The Conway and District Branch meet on the second Wednesday of every month at 7.00 pm at The Bull Hotel, Chapel Street, Abergele.
