The Llanelli branch of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is holding a seminar on Saturday 25 July, to help support people living with the condition in the region.
The seminar will take place at Selwyn Samuel Bowls Centre, Park Crescent, from 9.30am to 1.00pm and is open to anyone with an interest in epilepsy. Guest speakers include Dr Rhys Thomas, who is a neurology registrar at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, and a clinical research fellow in Swansea. Dr Thomas has been involved in research of epilepsy in families. Nia Griffiths, MP for Llanelli, and Beryl Sharlot, Epilepsy Action council member, will also be speaking at the seminar. Beryl will present the Epilepsy Action branch member of the year award to branch treasurer, Barbara Skivington. Members of St John's Ambulance will be providing first aid demonstrations throughout the event.
Ann Sivapatham, regional services manager for Wales, said: “This seminar will show people basic first aid for dealing with seizures and will provide a focal point for talking about epilepsy.
"It would be fantastic if people in Llanelli and the surrounding areas came together to support this event. We hope the seminar will highlight the fantastic work of Epilepsy Action’s Llanelli branch, as well as inform on important issues affecting people living with epilepsy.”
Anyone who would like to attend the seminar, or would like further information, should contact Ann Sivapatham on 01633 253 407 or branch chairman, Keith Skivington on 01554 776 719.
