A Dorking woman is preparing to pull on her walking shoes to support Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.
Gillian McCluskey has organised an Epilepsy Action Wonga Walk between Leatherhead and Dorking at 1.30pm on Sunday 15 May. Walkers can choose from three, five and 10 mile walks, starting and finishing at Bockett’s Farm, Fetcham. Gillian chose to organise the Wonga Walk event to bring the community together and involve people of all ages.
The walk has been organised to mark National Epilepsy Week (15-21 May). The week aims to raise awareness of epilepsy and raise funds to help support the 456,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK.
Gillian, who is a member of the Guilford Branch of Epilepsy Action, said: “I thought this would be a good idea for branch members and their families to get to know each other better. It will also give people the opportunity to meet others who have been affected by epilepsy. I am most looking forward to completing the exciting challenge of the 10 mile walk.”

Epilepsy affects one in every 131 people in the UK alone and 75 people are diagnosed with the condition every day. Last year Epilepsy Action directly helped over 845,000 people through a range of services, including its Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050, branch network, specialist nurse scheme and award-winning website, www.epilepsy.org.uk
