Epilepsy Action branches celebrate Diamond Jubilee Joliday

10 August, 2010

Twelve Epilepsy Action branches based in south east England joined together to celebrate the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation’s Diamond Jubilee on 7 August 2010.

The Jubilee Joliday was arranged to recognise and thank the volunteers for their hard work in the region. It also provided a networking opportunity where the volunteers could swop hints and tips on running a local branch. Others just wanted to meet someone else with epilepsy and discuss their experiences.

Epilepsy Action would like to thank West Ham Park, who supported the event by providing a dedicated park space and a person to be on hand for any requirements throughout the day. Decathlon Sports also supported the event by donating play equipment. This meant the 58 people who attended could play cricket, volleyball, croquet, hoopla, badminton and swing ball.

Marie Edgar, Epilepsy Action’s regional services manager for south east England, said: “We planned the day to bring the volunteers together to thank them for their hard work supporting Epilepsy Action. We also wanted to show that people with epilepsy have fun too. Many people worked hard to make sure the event was a success, and we all enjoyed it. The support on the day from the staff at West Ham Park was fantastic!”

Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of local support branches throughout the UK. Branch meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition in the local community. The programme of events includes speaker evenings, fundraising, and social activities.
