Epilepsy Action comes to Folkestone

9 July, 2007

A free public seminar on epilepsy is being held on Tuesday, July 24 2007 by Epilepsy Action, the UK’s leading member-led epilepsy charity.

The seminar, from 7.00pm until 9.15pm at the Shepway Civic Centre, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone, will give an overview of living with epilepsy and the latest developments in the treatment of the condition.

Susan Mistry, Epilepsy Action’s regional services manager for London and South East England will lead the meeting with a talk about the work of Epilepsy Action, a national charity representing the 456,000 people with epilepsy. Andy Smith, epilepsy specialist nurse in East Kent and at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford will talk about the latest developments in the treatment of epilepsy. Stuart Withers, an accredited volunteer of Epilepsy Action, will talk about his own experience of living with epilepsy.

Susan says: “We are holding the seminar in Folkestone as there is not a local branch in Shepway. We hope that the seminar will encourage people to see the benefits of talking about their condition and of having the latest news on available treatments and developments. It would be great if the seminar generates interest from people in the area in setting up a local branch of Epilepsy Action, but in any case we would like to provide people in the area with more information on living with the condition.”

Anyone interested attending the seminar or in having a local branch to provide support and information on epilepsy, especially if they would like to help get it started, should contact Susan on 01372 744302, or email her on smistry@epilepsy.org.uk.
