Epilepsy information day in Harlow

25 February, 2011

Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is hosting an epilepsy information event in Harlow to provide support to families with an interest in the condition.

It will take place on Saturday 12 March at Studio Theatre, Harlow Playhouse, Playhouse Square, Harlow, from 9.30am to 4.00pm.

The event is organised by Epilepsy Action’s Essex Forum. It is supported by local grant making charitable trust, Essex Community Foundation, with a grant from the Grassroots Grants programme

A variety of speakers include health professionals, Dr Graham Lennox, consultant neurologist from Addenbrookes Hospital,  and Brentwood Community Hospital’s epilepsy specialist nurse, Elizabeth Ross.

Julie Dennison, an author with epilepsy, will be giving a personal account, and there will be speakers from Families in Focus, and the St Elizabeth’s Centre. Epilepsy Action’s education officer, Leanne Creighton, will be discussing epilepsy issues faced in education, and the support available.

Marie Edgar, local services manager for the south east, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for people with epilepsy and their families to update themselves on the latest developments. There will also be an opportunity to meet other people with the condition, to meet and talk to Epilepsy Action staff, branch members, and the possibility of speaking to an expert, for example, a nurse or consultant. Lunch and refreshments are provided and there is access to free literature about many aspects of epilepsy.”

Tickets cost £19.00 for delegates, £12.00 for members and £8 member concessions. Seats are limited so to book a place, or for further information, please contact Jackie Kemp on 0113 210 8787, or email jkemp@epilepsy.org.uk

Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK. The Essex Forum represents five branches located in Tendring, Saffron Walden, Colchester, Basildon and Thurrock, and Mid Essex. For details of when each branch meets, please call Jackie, Epilepsy Action’s local services officer, on 0113 210 8787.  We hope that if there is sufficient interest we can start a new branch in Harlow.

Branch meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition in the local community. The branch’s programme of events includes speaker evening, fundraising, and social activities.
