Epilepsy professionals speak at Brighton conference

29 October, 2010

Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is hosting a conference in Brighton, to celebrate the charity’s Diamond Jubilee, or 60th birthday, and provide support to people with an interest in the condition.

The event will take place on Saturday 13 November at The Old Ship Hotel, Brighton, from 9.30am to 4.00pm.

Speakers include Dr Julia Aram, consultant neurologist at Brighton and Sussex University Hospital, and Dr Andrew Kelso, consultant neurologist from Barts and the London NHS Trust Hospital. Walter Louden, an epilepsy specialist nurse, will also be speaking. Representatives from Epilepsy Action’s Brighton Branch will be talking about activities in the local area.

Marie Edgar, regional services manager for the south east, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for people with epilepsy and their families to update themselves on the latest developments. There will also be an opportunity to meet other people with the condition, to meet and talk to Epilepsy Action staff, branch members, and the possibility of speaking to an expert, for example, a nurse or consultant. Lunch and refreshments are provided and there is access to free literature about many aspects of epilepsy. Come along, learn more about epilepsy, and help us celebrate 60 years as a charity.”

Tickets cost £19.00 for delegates, £12.00 for members and £8 member concessions. Seats are limited so to book a place, or for further information, please contact Jackie Kemp on 0113 210 8787, or email jkemp@epilepsy.org.uk

Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK. The Brighton Branch meets on the second Wednesday of every month from 7.30pm at Southwing Community Base, 113 Queens Road, Brighton. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 10 November.  Occasional daytime coffee and chat meetings take place in local cafes. Call Madeline on 01273 508 620 for more information.

Branch meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition in the local community. The branch’s programme of events includes speaker evening, fundraising, and social activities.
