Get 'Out in the Open' for charity (Kent)

4 May, 2008

Janice Cook from Kent is helping to bring epilepsy 'Out in the Open' by holding a sponsored walk in aid of Epilepsy Action.

The event will take place at Leybourne Lakes, on Sunday May 18, starting at 10:30am. So far, about 20 people are taking part in the one and a quarter mile walk.

It is just one of many ‘Out in the Open’ sponsored walks being held across the country to raise funds and celebrate National Epilepsy Week (May 18-24).

Janice said: “My daughter has epilepsy and over the years I have met a lot of lovely people who either have children or have epilepsy themselves. I have supported Epilepsy Action for five years; so far our family has raised around £10,000 for them. This year we want to raise a further £2,000 to continue to support the charity.”

Epilepsy Action needs to recruit as many walkers and walk organisers as possible if it is to reach this year’s fundraising target of £45,000.  More information can be found at http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/wongawalks.

The money raised will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action. Last year alone the organisation directly helped over 731,000 people through a range of services including its Epilepsy Helpline, advice and information centre, and branch network.
