A woman from Watford who completed an eight-day sponsored walk from Portreath to Penzance on September 14-21 has raised over £800 for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation.
Karen Eldridge trekked approximately 58 miles along a route of the South West Coast Path to raise awareness of epilepsy and help support the 456,000 people living with the condition in the UK. The route included rocky and challenging areas, while also taking in sights such as the stunning Lands End.
Karen, who has epilepsy herself, injured her foot while having a seizure shortly before the walk, meaning she could no longer camp in her tent and had to find accommodation along the route at very short notice. She said: “I met some really generous people during the walk and received kind support and accommodation from many people. I’d like to say thanks to The Stanley Hotel and Blue Seas in Penzance, the White Hart Hotel in Hayle, Blue Mist in St Ives, and the Tehidy Campsite.”
She continued: “I’d also like to say a big thank you to Brian and Dawn, Margaret and Karen, Nora at Trewey Farm, Patrick, Rev Howard Peskitt and the Penzance Methodist Church for all supporting me along the way and showing great generosity!”
Epilepsy Action has a huge variety of fundraising events you can get involved in, whether you’re an elite athlete or a complete beginner. These events can be a fun and exciting challenge with the added bonus of making a difference to people living with epilepsy. To find out more go to http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/involved/index.html
