Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is hosting a seminar in response to many queries about the way epilepsy affects women.
The event will take place on Saturday 17 April at County Hotel, Rainsford Road, Chelmsford, from 9.15am to 1.00pm and is open to anyone with epilepsy, or anyone with an interest in the condition.
This event welcomes both men and women. Guest speakers include Kim Morley, epilepsy specialist nurse and qualified midwife at Southampton Hospital. She will be talking about planning a pregnancy, and epilepsy at different stages in women’s lives. Kim is author of an article on best practice management of epilepsy and pregnancy, published in the British Journal of Neuroscience Nursing. Nicole Crosby-McKenna, Epilepsy Action’s development officer for women, will also be speaking. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions including private 5 minute slots in the final half hour .
Marie Edgar, regional services manager for south east England, will provide a brief overview of Epilepsy Action’s work in South East England, said: “This seminar will focus on women’s issues but will also dispel the myths that surround epilepsy and provide the opportunity for a general discussion about epilepsy.
"It would be great if people in East London and Essex came together to support this event. We hope the seminar will highlight the marvellous work of Epilepsy Action’s local branches, as well as inform on important issues affecting women with epilepsy.”
Anyone who would like to attend the seminar, or would like further information, should contact Jackie Kemp on 0113 210 8787, or at jkemp@epilepsy.org.uk
