Winchester man tees-off golf marathon for epilepsy charity

12 July, 2010

A  Winchester man is planning to take on a five-round golfing marathon in aid of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.

Robert Wilson, 66, the South Winchester Golf Club Captain, will take on this challenge on Saturday 24 July at South Winchester Golf Club. Robert and three of his friends at the club will walk and try to play five rounds of golf on that day, and without using buggies.  They will start at 4.00am and finish at 8.00pm.

Robert said: “I’m delighted to be taking on this challenge for Epilepsy Action. I have a son with epilepsy and the Lady Captain, Mary Lou Viljoen, had a sister who passed away during an epileptic seizure. Raising money to enable Epilepsy Action to establish a new epilepsy support group in Winchester was an obvious choice of charity for us in our year in office.  There is virtually no help out there in the Winchester area for local people with epilepsy, their families or their carers. Hopefully our efforts will change that and make a significant difference for them.

“In the last five years I have had two replacement knees, one new hip, two shoulder operations and two wrist operations. Being somewhat stubborn, I am determined to complete the challenge!”

’If anyone wishes to donate to this challenge to help this new epilepsy group start they are very welcome to contact me at robert@casadaoliveira.co.uk.”
