Bath Spa students will be tackling the 17th annual Jon Ball Memorial Rugby 7’s Tournament to raise vital funds for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.
The event will take place in Newton Park, Bath, from 10.00am on Sunday 2 May and is the first to see both men and women competing throughout the day. The tournament is in memory of Bath Spa University student and rugby captain, Jon Ball, who died after an epileptic seizure in 1994.
Dan Jones from Bath Spa University Students Union said: “This event is to raise money for a fantastic charity in order to remember Jon, who had a fatal epileptic attack alone in his room 17 years ago. The tournament is a prestigious event that has been running for a long time and it continues to grow in popularity. It starts at 10.00am and finishes at 2.00am, so it’s a long day packed with rugby and lots of laughs.”
It is hoped that the tournament will raise £5,000 to help support the 456,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK. The money raised from the event will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action.
