The Truro Branch of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is hosting a free community event on 29 September 2010.
It will take place at Truro Community Fire Station, Station Road, Truro, from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. The aim of the event is to discuss fire safety in the home for people with epilepsy, and support anyone with an interest in the condition. There will also be an opportunity to explore a working fire engine.
Peter Tonkin Green, manager of the fire station, will be leading the discussion on epilepsy and fire safety. Mary Parrett, epilepsy specialist nurse, will give a presentation on epilepsy awareness.
Mark McDaid, Epilepsy Action’s regional service manager for the south west, said: “The event is aimed at people with epilepsy, their family, friends and professional carers. There is something for everyone and will provide a unique opportunity to meet the local fire service and share experiences of living with epilepsy. It is possible due to the hard work and fundraising efforts carried out by the branch.”

Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK, which provide local support to people with epilepsy, their family and carers. Branches hold regular meetings and offer a mixture of social events and informative talks and discussions.
The Truro Branch holds regular monthly meetings on the last Wednesday of every month at Truro Town Hall, Truro, from 7.00pm until 9.00pm.
The meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition in the local community.
