Epilepsy Action Appoints New Regional Services Manager For South West England

18 December, 2007

Mark McDaid has been appointed regional services manager in the south west of England for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.

Mark, who is based in the South West, will be responsible for developing and managing community-based services for people with epilepsy and their families in the region. As part of that work, he will be working with a number of Epilepsy Action branches within the area.

He will also be organising regional conferences, seminars and information and awareness events aimed at informing people living with epilepsy about the condition. The first of these conferences will be held in Exeter on Saturday, February 9, 2008.

Before joining Epilepsy Action, Mark worked on supporting community development and sustainability for people in the South West region by promoting access to education and training opportunities. Prior to that Mark managed a number of national information, advice and support projects. He began his career as a volunteer welfare rights adviser in an East London Irish centre.

Mark says: “I am excited to have been given the opportunity to work for Epilepsy Action. I am looking forward to working in partnership with all interested parties across the region to help develop the much needed support services for people with epilepsy and their families.”

Epilepsy is the UK’s most common serious neurological condition. Every day around 75 people are diagnosed with epilepsy in the UK, yet misconceptions have built up around the condition and it is only today that attitudes towards epilepsy are becoming more positive.
