Epilepsy Action branch coming to Plymouth

19 November, 2009

Epilepsy Action, the UK's largest member-led epilepsy organisation is setting up a branch in Plymouth to support local people affected by epilepsy.

In partnership with local volunteers, the charity is organising a variety of events in the area. Epilepsy Action hopes to raise awareness of the branch and recruit more volunteers.

A volunteer interest day will be held from 12.00 pm to 3.00pm on Monday 7 December at Valuing Independence, Christian Mill Business Park, Tamerton Road, Plymouth. The event aims to recruit volunteers to help Epilepsy Action run a branch in the Plymouth area. The branch will offer support and advice for people affected by epilepsy.

Mark McDaid, regional services manager in south west England, for Epilepsy Action, said: "We are hoping to recruit volunteers to help us run an Epilepsy Action branch in Plymouth. The branch will be open to anyone with an interest in epilepsy and will support those living with the condition, as well as their families and carers.

"It would be fantastic if people in Plymouth and the surrounding areas could come together to support the development of a new Epilepsy Action branch. Please come along to support Epilepsy Action and help us develop new services in your area."

Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK. Branches hold regular meetings and offer a variety of social events and informative talks and discussions relating to epilepsy. Meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition in the local community.

Last year alone, Epilepsy Action directly helped over 686,500 people through a range of services, including its advice and information centre and Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050. For further information about the work of Epilepsy Action please visit www.epilepsy.org.uk
