Epilepsy Action branch coming to Southampton

18 August, 2009

Epilepsy Action, the UK's largest member-led epilepsy organisation is setting up a branch in Southampton to support local people affected by epilepsy.

In partnership with epilepsy specialist nurse, Kim Morley, the charity is organising a variety of events in the area to raise awareness of the branch and recruit volunteers.

A volunteer interest day will be held from 11.00 am to 1.00pm on Friday 28 August in room one at the Civic Centre, Southampton. The event aims to recruit volunteers to help Epilepsy Action run a branch in the Southampton area.

Mark McDaid, regional services manager in south west England, for Epilepsy Action, said: "It would be fantastic if people in Southampton and the surrounding areas could come together to support the development of a new Epilepsy Action branch. The branch is open to anyone with an interest in epilepsy and will support those living with the condition, as well as their families and carers. Please come along to support Epilepsy Action and help us develop new services in your area."

For anyone unable to attend the volunteer interest day, Epilepsy Action has set up some further meetings. These will be held on:

  • Monday 21 September (1.00pm – 3.00pm)
  • Wednesday 14 October (2.00pm – 4.00pm)
  • Tuesday 17 November (10.00am and 12.00pm)
  • Friday 11 December (12.00pm – 2.00pm).

All meetings will take place in room three at the Civic Centre, Southampton.

A skittles night at The Ship Inn, Old Redbridge Road, Southampton, has been organised on Saturday 26 September at 6.30pm for those unable to attend the daytime meetings.
