Get 'Out in the Open' for charity (Salisbury)

6 May, 2008

Marianne Mortimer from Salisbury is helping to bring epilepsy ‘Out in the Open’ by holding a sponsored walk in aid of Epilepsy Action.

The event will take place on May 18 and will be one of many ‘Out in the Open’ sponsored walks being held across the country to raise funds and celebrate National Epilepsy Week (May 18-24).

Marianne said: “I have organised the walk because I wanted to get family and friends together with lots of children to have fun and to thank them for their support. My daughter Charlotte was diagnosed with epilepsy a year ago. She copes so well and just wants to get on with her life. She has helped to break down stigma about the condition because she has such a strong personality.”

Epilepsy Action needs to recruit as many walkers and walk organisers as possible if it is to reach this year’s fundraising target of £45,000. More information can be found at www.epilepsy.org.uk/involved/walks

The money raised will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action. Last year alone the organisation directly helped over 731,000 people through a range of services including an Epilepsy helpline freephone 0808 800 5050 available Monday-Friday 9.00am-4.30pm (4.00pm on Fridays), its network of branches across England, Wales and Northern Ireland and its award winning website – www.epilepsy.org.uk
