New Epilepsy Action branch in Bournemouth

19 October, 2010

Epilepsy Action, the UK's largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is setting up a branch in Bournemouth to support people affected by epilepsy in the local area.

The launch will take place on Monday 25 October 2010 at Friends Meeting House, 16 Wharncliffe Road, Boscombe, Bournemouth. It will run from 7.00pm until 9.00pm and is open to everyone with an interest in epilepsy.

The development of the branch is possible thanks to the support of the DRAX Golf Society. Over the last 11 years, the society has organised annual fundraisers for Epilepsy Action in memory of Duncan Selby, who died of Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). During 2010 alone, the society raised £1,050.

Epilepsy specialist nurse, Michelle Knight, will be speaking on a range of epilepsy issues. The meeting will also offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and help to raise awareness of the condition in the local community.

Mark McDaid, Epilepsy Action's regional services manager for south west England, said: “It would be wonderful if people in the Bournemouth area could come together to support the development of a new Epilepsy Action branch. The new branch will support those living with epilepsy as well as their families and carers. Please come along to support us in developing new services in your area. Everyone is welcome.”
