New Epilepsy Action branch in Dorchester and Weymouth

5 May, 2011

Epilepsy Action, the UK's largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is setting up a branch in Dorchester and Weymouth to support people in the local area affected by epilepsy.

The launch will take place on Monday 16 May at the Dorford Centre, Dorchester Baptist Church, Bridport Road, Dorchester. It will run from 6.00pm until 8.00pm and is open to everyone with an interest in epilepsy. Following the launch, the branch will meet on the third Monday of every month at the Dorford Centre from 6.00-8.00pm.

The new branch will organise a variety of events and activities for people with epilepsy in the local area. This has only been possible thanks to the work of the branch volunteers, Janet, Jean and Julie. For more information about the Dorchester and Weymouth Branch of Epilepsy Action, please contact Jean, Branch Chair, on 01305 773346.

Mark McDaid, Epilepsy Action's regional services manager for south west England, said: “It would be wonderful if people in the Dorchester and Weymouth area could come together to support the development of a new Epilepsy Action branch. The new branch will support those living with epilepsy as well as their families and carers. Everyone is welcome.”

Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK. Branches hold regular meetings and offer a variety of social events and informative talks and discussions relating to epilepsy. Meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and help to raise awareness of the condition in the local community.

Epilepsy Action directly helps over 845,500 every year people through a range of services including its advice and information centre and Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050. For information about the work of Epilepsy Action, visit www.epilepsy.org.uk
