New Epilepsy Action branch in Southampton

21 April, 2011

Epilepsy Action, the UK's largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is setting up a branch in Southampton to support people in the local area affected by epilepsy. The branch has been developed in partnership with local epilepsy specialist nurse, Kim Morley.

The launch will take place on Tuesday 3 May at Friends Meeting House, 1a Ordnance Road, Southampton. It will run from 7.00pm until 9.00pm and is open to everyone with an interest in epilepsy. Following the launch, the branch will meet on the first Tuesday of every month at Friends Meeting House from 7.00 until 9.00pm.

The new branch will organise a variety of events and activities for people with epilepsy in the local area. This has only been possible thanks to the work of the branch volunteers, Will, Sue and David. For more information about the Southampton Branch of Epilepsy Action, please contact Mark McDaid, Epilepsy Action's regional services manager for south west England, on 01291 621 478 (mobile: 07841 416 966) or email mmcdaid@epilepsy.org.uk

Mark McDaid, Epilepsy Action's regional services manager for south west England, said: “It would be wonderful if people in the Southampton area could come together to support the development of a new Epilepsy Action branch. The new branch will support those living with epilepsy as well as their families and carers. Everyone is welcome.”

Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK. Branches hold regular meetings and offer a variety of social events and informative talks and discussions relating to epilepsy. Meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and help to raise awareness of the condition in the local community.

Epilepsy Action directly helps over 845,500 every year people through a range of services including its advice and information centre and Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050. For information about the work of Epilepsy Action, visit www.epilepsy.org.uk
