Strap on your walking boots (Plymouth)

15 May, 2007

On Sunday May 20, Jackie Hilton from Goosewell, Plymouth will be helping Epilepsy Action to bring epilepsy “Out in the Open” by organising a local sponsored walk.

Nationwide, hundreds of people will be taking part in “Out in the Open” sponsored walks to celebrate National Epilepsy Week (20 – 26 May).

The 2.5K walk will start at 2pm and will take place on the National Trust estate of Saltram, Plympton.

Jackie says: “My daughter has epilepsy and I am a member of the Epilepsy Action Plymouth branch. As a branch we are hoping to raise funds and awareness of the work Epilepsy Action does. The setting of the walk is a lovely location alongside the river Plym and it was also used as a location for the film ‘Sense and Sensibility’.”

Members of Epilepsy Action’s Plymouth branch will be taking part in the walk and there will also be an information stand in the city centre outside WH Smith on Saturday May 26 from 10am until 4pm.

Epilepsy Action needs to recruit as many walkers and walk organisers as possible if it is to reach this year’s fundraising target of £50,000. More information can be found at http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/wongawalks

The money raised will help fund vital advice and information services provided by the charity. Epilepsy Action has a network of branches across the UK and now directly helps more than 550,000 people every year.
