Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is hosting a seminar in Winchester to highlight issues associated with women and epilepsy. The event is supported by South Winchester Golf Club.
It will take place on Saturday 14 November at the Winchester Guildhall, Broadway, High Street, Winchester, from 10.00am to 2.30pm. It is aimed at women with epilepsy and their families. The seminar will include advice and information from childbearing to menopausal years and beyond. Kim Morley, Sapphire specialist epilepsy nurse for Solent Community Healthcare and epilepsy specialist midwife for RHCH, Winchester and Epilepsy Action’s women’s development officer, will be guest speakers.
Ladies’ and Men’s Captains from South Winchester Golf Club chose Epilepsy Action as their charity of the year. Both Captains have close family affected by the condition and wanted to raise funds to form a local support group in Winchester.
Mark McDaid, regional services manager for south west England, said: “We are thrilled that South Winchester Golf Club has chosen us as their charity of the year. They have raised around £2,000 and these funds will be specifically dedicated to the formation of a new Epilepsy Action support branch in Winchester. It will also fund the branch’s initial projects, such as this event. It would be fantastic if people in Winchester and the surrounding areas could come together to support the development of our Epilepsy Action services in the area.”
Kim Morley, specialist epilepsy nurse and midwife, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Epilepsy Action and the 10th anniversary of me having the privilege of providing care to women with epilepsy in the local area. I am hopeful many of those women I have cared for will join us for this seminar along with all those women with epilepsy whom I have not yet had the opportunity of meeting.”
