A free public seminar on epilepsy will be held on Fri May 18 2007 by the Taunton branch of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s leading member-led epilepsy charity.
The seminar, from 6.45pm until 8.00pm at the Syndicate Room in the Albemarle Centre, Albemarle Road, Taunton, will give an overview of epilepsy and offer advice on living with the condition.
The meeting will be led by Tony McMahon, chairman of the Taunton branch and Helen King, Epilepsy Action’s regional services manager for the South West. Dr. David Footitt, consultant neurologist at Musgrove Hospital, Taunton, will discuss various forms of epilepsy, including how it is diagnosed, medication and the organisation of local epilepsy services.
Jeremy Browne, Lib Dem MP for Taunton, and Mark Gibbs, Epilepsy Action trustee, will be lending their support to the event. Light refreshments and a raffle will also be organised.
Helen King commented: “Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of volunteer-led branches throughout the UK. Most hold regular meetings and offer a mix of social events and discussion. Meetings offer an opportunity to talk to people who understand living with epilepsy, as well as helping raise local awareness. The seminar is an excellent opportunity to find out more about this common neurological condition which affects many people, yet is so often misunderstood.”
