Teignmouth mum and daughter take on steep climb for epilepsy charity

29 July, 2010

A Teignmouth mum and daughter are aiming to conquer the UK’s highest mountain, to raise vital funds for UK charity, Epilepsy Action.

Jane Burt (59) and Alice (26), who has epilepsy, will attempt the Epilepsy Action Ben Nevis Challenge over three days from 27 to 29 August. The climb will involve eight hours of walking, mostly up a very steep gradient and uneven terrain. At 1,343 metres (4,406 feet), Ben Nevis, located near Fort William in Scotland, is the UK’s highest mountain, attracting thousands of trekkers each year.

Jane said: “I’m usually rowing on the River Teign or the Devon Coastline, so this time I’ve decided to change my rowing oars for hiking boots. Alice is an experienced climber in spite of her epilepsy so she can show me how it’s done. I’m really looking forward to taking on this personal challenge and raising funds and awareness of epilepsy and Epilepsy Action.”

Jane and Alice hope to raise £1,000 by taking on the Ben Nevis Challenge. The money raised by Jane and Alice will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action.

Entry to the Epilepsy Action Ben Nevis Challenge is still open. To find out more about this, and other Epilepsy Action events, visit www.epilepsy.org.uk/involved or call the fundraising team on 0113 210 8800.
