A Cotteridge man, who has epilepsy, is holding a charity race night to raise vital funds for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.
John Corke will host the event on Friday 3 December at 7.30pm upstairs in Tasco’s Social Club, Stirchley. This is the second race night - where guests make bets on horse racing video footage - John has hosted for Epilepsy Action. As well as the racing, there will also be a quiz, stand-up bingo and a ploughman’s supper.
John, 56, said: “I have epilepsy myself and so I want to raise awareness of the condition as well as lots of money for Epilepsy Action. I’m really looking forward to seeing my guests enjoy themselves while raising funds for my charity of choice. I hope people in the local area will get behind this event and help support people affected by epilepsy.”
Katie Stocks, fundraising events officer at Epilepsy Action, said: “John has taken part in several events for Epilepsy Action and we’re very grateful to him for all his support. The money raised by John is vital in helping us support the 456,000 people with epilepsy in the UK.”
John is also planning to walk the West Highland Way in Scotland for Epilepsy Action next year. The 95-mile route takes six days to complete, taking in some of Scotland’s most impressive scenery along the way. He has previously climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon for the charity. The money raised by John will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action.
Tickets cost £6 and can be booked up to a week in advance. Tickets can also be bought on the night for £3, but this will not include the ploughman’s supper. To book or for more information, call John on 0121 459 2040 or email johnwcorke@blueyonder.co.uk
Epilepsy is the UK’s most common neurological condition affecting an estimated one in 131 people. Last year Epilepsy Action directly helped over 688,000 people through a range of services, including its Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050 and award-winning website, www.epilepsy.org.uk
