Christine Gore, stalwart of the Warwick District Branch of Epilepsy Action, has won a national award in recognition of her work for the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity. The Warwick District Branch has also won a “Highly Commended” award.
The Epilepsy Action Branch Awards will be presented by Julie Clark, Epilepsy Action’s manager for central England. The presentation will take place on Monday 11 June at the branch meeting. Timings are 7.30pm to 9.30pm, at Odd Fellows Hall, 6 Clarence Terrace, Warwick Street, Leamington Spa.
The Warwick District Branch has been supporting local people with epilepsy for over 30 years providing monthly meetings and information. During this meeting, guest speaker, Andy Valenzia, vet from the Feldon Veterinary Centre, will be talking about the differences in treating humans and animals with epilepsy.
Christine joined the branch with her husband six years ago. Within a short time, she took on the role of branch secretary. She has assisted the committee on many occasions and is very accurate with her minute taking. She has given talks at branch meetings on a range of subjects and arranged various quizzes, which have proved to be very popular.
Julie Clark, Epilepsy Action’s manager for central England, said: “Chris has always been ready to assist with branch fundraising and member enquiries. She also coordinates a programme of events for the branch’s monthly meetings. She is a very efficient officer and a fine ambassador for Epilepsy Action. This award is well deserved!”
Christine Gore said: “I am honoured to win this award and would like to thank those who nominated me. We have some dedicated volunteers within the branch and I am grateful for the award. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone in Leamington Spa who kindly donated on 19 May and helped us raise £190.66. The funds will be used to support local people with epilepsy through the work of the branch.”
Beryl, chair of the Warwick District Branch, said: “We are delighted to receive the Highly Commended Branch Award. It recognises the work of our local volunteers, who are a very dedicated and committed team. This is the reason why the branch continues to go from strength to strength. Many volunteers have a specific role which helps to ensure the smooth running of the branch. It has enabled us to support local people with epilepsy and we thank everyone who nominated us. Many friendships have been developed over the years.
“We have chosen to do something a little different at this meeting. We are looking forward to hearing differences between animals and humans with epilepsy.”
The Warwick District Branch meetings are open to anyone with an interest in epilepsy. There are opportunities to access detailed information about living with the condition and to learn how to get involved in raising epilepsy awareness in the area.
The branch meets on the second Monday of the month at 7.30pm at Odd Fellows Hall, 6 Clarence Street, Warwick Street, Leamington Spa.
