Epilepsy Advice and Information Awareness Day (Birmingham)

13 November, 2007

Epilepsy Action’s West Midlands Forum, the UK’s largest member-led charity, is holding an advice and information awareness day on Monday November 26 between 10.30am and 4:00pm at Carrs Lane Church Centre, Birmingham.

Funded by the Big Lottery Reaching Communities fund, this is the first of two events that the West Midlands Forum will be holding before Christmas. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of Epilepsy Action and epilepsy in the area, and to help provide advice and information on all issues relating to the condition. The awareness day will be run by Epilepsy Action representatives, many of whom are Accredited Volunteers.

Michele Harper, forum secretary, said: “Very often people with epilepsy find their consultant or GP don’t have the required time for them to ask relevant questions concerning them. This advice and information day will be an ideal opportunity for someone who has epilepsy to ask about their concerns confidentially on a one-to-one basis.”

Michele continues: “Overall it will be a great opportunity for anyone who has an interest in the condition. A wealth of information relating to epilepsy will be available, including education, employment first aid in the event of a seizure. The more people that come along, gain the information they want, the better!”

Anyone who is interested in joining the support group, or who would like to find out more but cannot attend on the day, should contact Michele, forum secretary on 01902 398713.
