Epilepsy Employment Seminar in Birmingham

9 October, 2007

Epilepsy Action is hosting an employment seminar for Birmingham recruitment agencies in a bid to raise awareness of epilepsy amongst employment professionals.

The seminar is being supported by a donation from the Birmingham branch of the recruitment specialists, Pertemps. It will cover employment issues that many people with epilepsy experience including, lack of opportunity; discrimination; and misinformation about the condition. It will also look at how Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity, is working nationally to break down the barriers for people with the condition in the workplace.

Employment, training and recruitment professionals in the Birmingham area have been invited to attend the event on Tuesday, October 23, at Birmingham Central Library. Epilepsy Action staff and volunteers will be on hand to discuss and answer questions on the issues raised.

David Powell, speaker at the seminar and Epilepsy Action regional services manager for central England, says: “We’re very grateful for the donation from Pertemps. It has allowed us to hold an event that will help highlight some of the difficulties faced by people with epilepsy in the job market. It is hoped that it will leave employment and recruitment staff with a greater understanding of epilepsy and how to work with employees who have the condition.”
