Volunteers from Epilepsy Action’s Stoke on Trent branch will be helping to bring epilepsy “Out in the Open” by holding its annual sponsored walk at 10.30am on Sunday May 18.
The Stoke branch will be holding its 10th annual “Out in the Open” walk at Hanley Forest Park. Over the past four years the branch has managed to raise over £8,000. This staggering achievement could only have been achieved with the support of the local community but it is hoped that this year’s event will be no exception.
It is just one of many such events happening throughout the UK to celebrate National Epilepsy Week (18 - 25 May). Nationwide, thousands of people will be walking to bring epilepsy into the open and raise vital funds for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation.
John Bostock, chairman of the Stoke on Trent branch said: “We welcome everyone to come and join us. It doesn’t matter if you walk for miles or just a short distance, every step you take will be helping to raise vital funds to help those people whose lives are affected by epilepsy. It is an event in which the whole family can join and we hope a fun day will be had by all.”
If you would like to take part in this years event, or would like to sponsor the branch, please contact John on 01782 775846.
On Friday May 22 and Saturday May 23 the Stoke Branch will also be holding advice and information days at the Roe Buck Centre in Newcastle Under Lyme. If you would like to attend this event or would like any further information please contact the branch.
The money raised will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action. Last year the organisation directly helped over 731,000 people through a range of services, including its Epilepsy Helpline freephone, 0808 800 5050, advice and information centre and branch network.
