School Putting The Kettle On For Charity

3 October, 2008

Staff and pupils at Old Park Special School, Dudley will be having a cuppa and joining Epilepsy Action’s sixth National Tea Break on Friday October 17.

Pupils will be taking a break from their hard work and visiting the school café to enjoy some tea and cake. The school has organised the Tea Break to help raise vital funds for the estimated 456,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK.

Lorraine Draper, a teacher at the school, said; “Many of our pupils have epilepsy, which is why we want to raise money for a charity that does so much to help people with the condition. We have invited parents, pupils and friends from other schools, and hope to raise awareness of epilepsy within our local community."

Nationwide, hundreds of people will be organising Tea Breaks. The event has been supported by TV stars and personalities, who have provided a variety of delicious recipe cards for the Tea Break packs being sent to the many people taking part. Celebrities include comedians Victoria Wood and Jo Brand; fitness expert Rosemary Conley; celebrity chef Alan Coxon; and many more.

In the last five years the event has raised over £76,000 and Epilepsy Action is hoping to break the £100,000 barrier this year. For more information about Tea Break, please visit www.epilepsy.org.uk/teabreak
